This year, the Jubilee Project will be holding another conference, with the theme "The Road Less Traveled"!
As today's generation of college students and young adults begin to make decisions that will directly impact their immediate walks in life, Jubilee Conference 2015 – The Road Less Traveled aims to encourage them to seek out paths that they are passionate about. Join us on August 15th as we explore what it means to pursue to take the road less traveled.
This topic will be interesting to explore, especially as we enter a time when our generation's creative aspirations continue to evolve.
Growing up, I have always questioned what path to take. As I'm sure a lot of people will have experienced, we are often told to (or suggested to) follow the safer career routes. Most notably, we are told that secure careers like medicine, law, or engineering are better choices than more creative-inclined jobs. As a creative person myself, there is a struggle. What it often comes down to, though, is fear and cowardice, in my opinion.
As an Asian-American, I recently began wondering what part of choosing a creative path was so risky. Besides the obvious (less stable, uncertainty, etc.), I think one of the things that holds us back the most is that we don't have many real-life examples to model ourselves after. Well, until recently.
So, I say cast away your fears. If you have something that you're really passionate about, work at it as much as you can, and then work some more. Don't know any Jeremy Lin's? Not a personal acquaintance of any Wong Fu Productions'? No Ang Lee-like friends? Why not be the next Jeremy Lin, the next Wong Fu, or the next Ang Lee?
The world is slowly opening up to talent from all over the place. Ride the wave, and discover what it is you truly love. If coming to the conference is the first step of many, then commit to it! Come learn, connect, and play!
Plus, there's a chance you might be able to catch my short film. /shamelessplug
